MOUNTAIN WRITERS GET OFF TO A BRISK START

The Mountain Writers organization got off to a brisk start last Tuesday night at the Blue Ridge Book Store in Waynesville.
Certainly, the setting was pleasant. Amid the smell of coffee, sugar buns and surrounded by the works of the best writers in Western North Carolina, the group made plans for the coming year. Buffy Queen (not shown) reported on the NC Writers Network Conference that she attended recently and gave a fascinating report on the design of book covers. Ben Eller commented on the release of his new science=fiction novel, The Cleansing and mentioned that he is hard at work on a new thriller with an academic setting. Gary Carden (not shown) talked about his works that are currently on PBS and said that he new DVD, "Nance Dude," will be the subject of a lecture and discussion at the Haywood County Public Library in March. Chase Walker discussed a series he is co-authoring (the protagonist is called Bajou Savage!) and Charlie Pearson noted that he is still working on a long, comical narrative. Carl Iobst, a new member discussed his interest in the region's folklore and history - topics that he would draw on for his short stories.

For those who are interested in attending future meetings of Mountain Writers, the group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be on February 9th.
