TEARS IN THE RAIN PROJECT

THE "TEARS IN THE RAIN" PROJECT:  This sculpture was created by Frank Creech, an artist and storyteller who spent his entire life teaching and creating. This particular sculpture is located at the Johnson County Library and additional information is available on Google. It is called "Rescue." I find this bronze sculpture affecting because I am currently working on a project about the drowning of 19 convicts in the Tuckaseigee River in 1882.  Since the convicts were shackled and chained together, they sank to the bottom of the river when their boat capsized.  It was two days before they recovered the bodies. The convicts ended up in unmarked graves near the Cowee Tunnel where they were working at the time of the accident.  Some of the convicts were saved.  When I look at this sculpture, I put shackles and chains on the figure in the water (and possibly on the rescuer, too!)

  1. Beautiful work; since it's called "Rescue", we should presume (I reckon) that the drowning person was pulled to safety; but there's always a chance the hands will slip--which makes it a little scary to look at.

BTW, thanks to the broom that swept the trash out of here!!
