MOONSHINE AND APPALACHIA

Well, kind hearts, indulge me a bit. Neal Hutcheson just sent me this YouTube clip because it is part of his documentary work for my film/play, "The Prince of Dark Corners." These are inverviews with folks who write about moonshining in Appalachia. I guess Neal may send me additional clips later. The point is, I am going to indulge in a bit of shameless self-promotion. All of this is part of an effort to take advantage of the fact that "Prince of Dark Corners" and "The Outlaw, Redmond"have been combined in a new DVD (over two hours in length) and there is some interest in national distribution to PBS stations as a result of an endorsement from NETA (National Educational Television Association) who will be recommending the new revised edition to PBS stations everywhere. Two of the guys in the interviews are authors and moonshine authorities: Jerry Alexander and Joe Dabney. The other fellow has dubious credentials but showed up when Neal was filming in Sylva and insisted on being allowed to talk.

MAJOR LEWIS REDMOND, OUTLAW, RETURNS

Kind hearts, gird your loins and prime your pistols! The outlaw, Lewis Redmond, is back - his return made possible by the impressive talents of Steve Brady. Steve is an actor, writer and musician who grew up in Macon County and has been active in regional drama groups since he was a child. In addition, he is a member of the "Mountain Voices" writers group in Sylva and recently received the "Milestone" fiction award from Southwestern Community College. "Prince of Dark Corners" is scheduled for two performances at the Albert Carlson - Cashiers Community Library on August 28-29 at 7:30. All proceeds from these performances will go to the new Jackson County Public Library Complex. Ticket are $10.00.

At present, it looks like Steve will be repeating the role of Major Redmond in Franklin in September and he will be doing a performance for the Sylva Book Fair in November (the 13th, I believe). There is also a possibility that he will do a performance in Old Fort, N. C.

I'll add more information as it becomes available. Please ask questions.

THE NEW "PRINCE OF DARK CORNERS" PREMIERED LAST NIGHT AT THE ALBERT CARLSON CASHIERS LIBRARY. ANY CONCERNS AS TO IF STEVE BRADY COULD HANDLE THE ONE-HOUR MONOLOGUE ABOUT THE ROGUE OUTLAW THAT OPERATED IN THIS REGION FOLLOWING THE CIVIL WAR QUICKLY VANISHED WHEN BRADY APPEARED ON STAGE. HE RECEIVED A STANDING OVATION AND WILL REPEAT THE ROLE TONIGHT (AUGUST 29TH) AT 7:30.
